The Hippo Love Art Society is a collective dedicated to creating playful, community-driven art experiences that bring people together through colour, light, and imagination.

The Way Finder Landmark is a beacon in the darkness, a place to gather, a place to interact, a place to wonder and a compass to direct your journey anew.
Brandon Tyson (he/him) is a Two-Spirit Anishinaabe artist from the unceded territories of Wikwemikoong First Nation, now based in Moh’kinstsis (Calgary, AB). His creative work spans circus arts, digital and visual media, Indigenous craft, and fabrication technologies like laser cutting, CNC, and 3D printing.

THE TUNNEL

B!G ART

The TUNNEL is a portal into the extraordinary. Towering structures glow with shifting light and sound, drawing participants through a surreal passageway. Interactive elements let “pilots” guide the journey, transforming each step into a dazzling adventure beyond the ordinary.

BIG ART delivers inspiring encounters that are both safe and reliable. The team takes pride in bringing bold, innovative visions to life.

Tic-Tac-Totes

B!G ART

BIG ART, returns to Night Light with their iconic TOTES—1m x 1m illuminated cubes! This year, audiences can gather around a massive, glowing game of tic-tac-toe, blending play with light in true BIG ART fashion. The TOTES stack into arches, pillars, or castles, programmed with dazzling colours and reactive effects. From playful installations to choreographed spectacles, BIG ART continues to deliver unforgettable, larger-than-life experiences that bring people together.

Reflections

Underground Wires

Reflections – Victoria Park is a live  installation projecting generative visuals and synchronized music onto an outdoor wall. Using community-sourced sound, video, and live camera feeds, the piece reflects passersby in real time, transforming public space into a playful, participatory celebration of creativity. Created by Underground Wires, a Calgary-based artist blending experimental electronic music, immersive media, and light-based installations, with collaborations including the Oscill8 Collective.

Earth Gate & the 4Pillars

Christina Catley

Earth Gate in the Elements invites reflection on the four elements as constants of growth, grounding, and connection. Created by Ce Cat Designs (Christina, she/her)—a Calgary-based multidisciplinary artist and founder of Bass Terra Collective—the installation builds on her passion for interactive, large-scale public art across Western Canada.

Bug Bright

CRATE - Christy Herdman

Bug Bright is a free, hands-on adventure inviting kids (and kids at heart) to build radiant glow bugs, spark mindfulness, and light up their inner shine. Created by CRATE Art Therapy, founded by Calgary artist and art therapist Christy Herdman (she/her), the project blends creativity, compassion, and emotional wellness.

Pepper's Radio Flyer

Kenzie Housego and Devin Giles

Pepper’s Radio Flyer is a mobile artwork blending nostalgia and innovation. Built from a reclaimed retro radio and cutting-edge LED technology, the tricycle-mounted piece roams the festival, engaging audiences. Created by Calgary-based artists Kenzie Housego (she/her) and Devin Giles (he/him), the work follows their 2024 debut, Ghost Cruiser.

Galactic Atmosphere

Cloud Nine Group

Galactic Atmosphere is an immersive installation featuring planets 10–30 ft in diameter. With glowing textures, DMX-controlled lighting, and music, the work transforms public space into a cosmic experience. Created by Cloud Nine Group.

A big thank you to Pixel Park C+E District for showcasing Galactic Atmosphere. Their support helps bring this larger-than-life installation to Calgary creating a space where our community can gather and imagine.

Lost Buoys - Shrine

Dylan Toymaker

Lost Buoys is a luminous reflection on the life cycle of plastic and our material choices. Lanterns made from ocean-recovered buoys glow with an original soundscape by Adham Shaikh. Created by Edmonton-based light artist Dylan Toymaker (he/him), the installation transforms discarded objects into stories of resilience, beauty, and renewal.

Inner Light

Hopeful Heart Design Co.

Inner Light is a visual experience using light-reactive mandalas to explore individuality and the inner light we all share. Painted on records with UV paint, the glowing works invite calming moments of reflection. Created by Hope (they/them) of Hopeful Heart Design Co., the project expands their vibrant mandala practice into public space.

Intricate Interplay

Josh Miller and Joey Strain

Intricate Interplay is a projection-based installation where participants control elements of a whimsical chain reaction using their phones. Mixing Rube Goldberg mechanics, physics simulation, and quirky illustrations, the interactive game invites collaboration and play. Created by illustrator Joey Strain and designer-technologist Josh Miller, the work blends art, design, and software into shared wonder.

Mystic Woods

Jose Macasinag

Mystic Woods transforms Memorial Park Library into a glowing habitat where spirited animals and glittering flora dance through nocturnal landscapes. Elk, dolphins, salmon, and bison come alive in shimmering motion. Created by Jose Macasinag, this projection-mapped installation blends ecological storytelling with magical enchantment, inviting audiences to reflect on nature’s interdependence.

Neural Net

Kathryn Blair

The Neural Net is a participatory installation where visitors build neurons for a sculptural neural network, shaping live-generated images together. Ephemeral changes invite exploration of how data flows through each node. Created by Kathryn Blair (she/her), a Calgary-based artist and PhD candidate, the work reflects technology’s role in community and connection.

Notorious B.I.G

True North Absurdities

Notorious B.I.G. is a 10 ft tall fire breathing dragon crawling out of the ground, merging engineering precision with absurdist spectacle. Flames, scale, and motion spark awe and laughter. Created by True North Absurdities (Kyle Jensen & Ian Rice), the Alberta-based duo blends sculpture, technology, and performance into unforgettable, high-impact public art experiences.

Branch Beats

Lowell Smidteboom and Sarah Storteboom

Branch Beats invites participants to orchestrate their own light show in the trees, exploring patterns and rhythm through a command station. IllumiNook, a miniature immersive experience inside a newspaper box, offers a solo journey through optical wonder. Created by Lowell Smidteboom and Sarah Storteboom, the duo blends art, technology, and sensory play.

LED Flower Garden

Nicholas Marstol

LED Flower Garden transforms public space into a glowing field of vibrant, responsive light. This interactive installation by Nicholas Marstol (he/him)—a Calgary-based lighting designer and technical artist—blends engineering precision with creative expression. Building custom fixtures and control systems, Marstol crafts immersive environments that spark joy, curiosity, and wonder through light.

City Groove

Ranique McLaughlin

City Groove: The Projection Party introduces a playful 3D animated character who invites audiences into a joyful, interactive dance experience. Vibrant and community-focused, the installation celebrates connection and togetherness. Created by Ranique McLaughlin, a Calgary-based artist blending technology and art, this debut public work transforms energy and motion into light-filled celebration.

Chromatic Perception

The Art of Rylee - Rylee Ann Spada

Chromatic Perception features monochromatic paintings that shift under dynamic lighting, transforming static art into fluid optical illusion. Viewers are invited to explore how colour, light, and perception continuously change. Created by Rylee Ann Spada (she/her), a Calgary-based painter known for whimsical, light-filled works, this installation marks her debut in illuminated, immersive environments.

Love Letters

11 Dimensions - Todd Moyer

LOVE Letters invites participants to design colourful creations on paper, which are projection-mapped onto a giant LOVE sculpture. Blending physical art with virtual light, the installation celebrates creativity and connection. Created by Todd Moyer (he/him) of 11 Dimensions, an experiential arts studio renowned for immersive, large-scale light installations worldwide.

Illoominated 2

11 Dimensions - Todd Moyer

Illoominated 2 pays tribute to computer visionary Ada Lovelace, weaving laser beams and projection mapping into generative fabric that evokes spools of thread. Juxtaposing Industrial Revolution-era machinery with contemporary digital technology, the installation transforms light into living tapestry. Created by Todd Moyer of 11 Dimensions, it blends history, innovation, and wonder.

Laser Graffiti

11 Dimensions - Todd Moyer

Laser Graffiti invites participants to create digital “street art” using lasers and projection mapping. With photorealistic backgrounds and reactive paint drips, the installation mimics the feel of real graffiti while offering a playful, empowering experience. Created by Todd Moyer of 11 Dimensions, it transforms public space into a luminous canvas.

Barb

Alexis Prince, Karin King, Mandy Morris, Melony Stieben, Nicholas Gunhouse, and Vanessa Willms-Wong.

Barb is an 8-foot mythical bird puppet with animatronic eyes and lights, created by six artists from the Fuse33 + IAACC Spring 2025 residency. Drawing from diverse practices in textiles, illustration, installation, and natural materials, the cohort blends whimsy, sustainability, and storytelling into a mobile sculpture that playfully interacts with festival guests.
