ART SPOT is a Calgary-based business founded by Emma McCaul that produces immersive art experiences, curated
exhibitions, and large-scale events across Western Canada. The company supports and manages hundreds of artists,
helping showcase their work to public audiences through engaging, interactive events.
Our Workshops
PROJECTION MAPPING 101
AZMA (Matthew Waddell & Laura Anzola)
Projection Mapping 101 is a three-day workshop taking place September 21–23 at The District Work Space, where eight participants will learn the fundamentals of projection mapping using MadMapper with guidance from two facilitators. Participants will develop their skills through hands-on learning, culminating in an exhibition of their work at Night Light, September 24–26, 2026.
Axis Z Media Arts (AZMA) is a digital art studio based in Calgary, Canada that creates genre-blurring digital experiences that break out of the traditional rectangular screen and into the real world.

GLOW-WING

Glow-Wing is a luminous art activation where creativity takes flight and
emotional awareness literally glows. Participants are invited to design
and build their own fluttering bug — engineered with simple mechanical
principles so its wings gently move, designed to catch the light by day and
glow in the dark by night. Inspired by moths — night wanderers drawn
instinctively toward light — Glow-Wing is more than a make-and-take craft.
It’s a mindful invitation to reflect on what helps you glow when things feel dim.

CONTEMPORARY VICE
CHILDLIKE WONDER!” is a self-expression workshop which invites participants to explore and nurture their creative voice! Offering light reactive paints for glow-in-the-dark creativity, this space is intended to uplift, inspire and illuminate inspiration. Participants of all walks of life are encouraged to nourish the inner child through creation of their own mixed-media masterpieces! This is a space of dreamlike energy and playfulness where we get to discover a sense of magic from within!
CONTEMPORARY VICE is a non-binary emerging artist based out of Calgary, Canada.

NEON WEAVING WORKSHOP
Harvey Nichol Studio
Neon Weaving is a hands-on workshop where participants "draw with light." They use flexible LED neon wires and foam
boards to create custom glowing art. It’s a simple but high-impact process: you sketch a pattern on the board, poke your
holes, and "weave" the glowing wire through to bring the design to life. No experience is needed; people can choose to
make trippy geometric patterns, abstract shapes, or their own personal symbols.
Harvey Nichol Studio is an independent art studio based in the Beltline that specializes in large-scale public and private
art commissions, including murals, sculptures, and installation work.

Join Art with Saloni for a fun and creative Glow in the dark art experience as part of Night Light, a free and family- friendly art making. This interactive activity invites participants of all ages to explore glowing paints and creative techniques to make their own glow in the dark artwork. The workshop encourages imagination, connection, and playful experimentation with shapes and colour in a welcoming community setting. Come create, explore, and enjoy a unique artistic experience that brings people together through creativity and the magic of glowing art.
Saloni Sharma is a multidisciplinary artist, interior designer, and art educator based in Calgary (Moh-kins-tsis).

PUSH & GLOW
Aaron Brown
Push & Glow is a playful interactive light installation that invites people of all ages to push, pull, and stretch glowing fabric forms to reshape projected light in real time. As visitors interact with the soft surfaces, vibrant visuals shift and distort across the installation, creating a shared experience of movement, colour, and surprise. A live camera feed folds participants back into the projections, blending their bodies with light and pattern in unexpected ways. Both tactile and immersive, Touch & Glow transforms touch into spectacle—encouraging curiosity, connection, and joyful exploration. It is a space to play, experiment, and see yourself become part of the artwork.
Aaron Brown is a multidisciplinary artist specializing in murals, projection mapping, and large-scale festival installations.
WORLDS COLLIDE
CONTEMPORARY VICE × Chris Devious
For Night Light 2026, CONTEMPORARY VICE and Chris Devious transform the library’s west façade into a living canvas. Vivid characters, flowing patterns and live projection mapping come together in a playful world of colour, movement and wonder.
FROM SCRATCH
Dave Palenier, Mark Thompson, & Alisa Tukkimäki
Great festivals are built on three essentials: music, friends, and food. Based on these elements, From Scratch is guided by three core principles: gifting, harm reduction, and communal effort.
The project creates opportunities for community members to contribute by cooking, serving food, or performing music, encouraging festival-goers to move from passive consumers to active participants. More than a food and music experience, From Scratch is an act of harm reduction and community care. By gifting nourishing food in a festival environment, it promotes self-care, connection, and well-being.
The From Scratch is a small collective of Alberta Burners comprised of builders, DJs, artists, and community organizers.
HEART-TO-HEART
Tree House Collective
Heart-to-Heart is an interactive installation that invites two participants to physically and visually experience the phenomenon of shared rhythm. The piece measures the heartbeats of two individuals and gradually syncs them through a responsive lighting system to create a moment of connection between two strangers.
Participants place their hands on two pulse sensors positioned in front of the installation. Their heartbeats are detected in real time and translated into light pulses through a heart-shaped structure.
The Treehouse Collective is a group of friends that love creating colourful, accessible experiences that spark curiosity and encourage play in people of all ages. Drawing from our backgrounds in coding, engineering and fine arts, we use technology to bring installations to life.
LIGHT SCAPE
Dustin Port & Amanda Syryda
LightScape is a large-scale interactive light installation inspired by the classic Lite‐Brite toy. Participants create glowing patterns and images by placing coloured bottles into a giant illuminated grid, transforming a familiar childhood activity into a collaborative public artwork. Standing 8 feet tall and lit from within by LED lighting, the two-sided structure shines brightly at night as designs constantly evolve through community participation. Open to all ages and artistic abilities, LightScape invites playful creativity and spontaneous collaboration, often becoming a lively gathering space where strangers come together to build a shared landscape of colour and light.

installation.
SIR PENTI & SYNTHETIC MEADOWS
Turnaboots
Sir Penti is a hand-sewn inflatable garden serpent, 3D modelled and digitally patterned, with hand silk-screened scales and giant LED matrix eyes. Synthetic Meadow allows you to Step into the role of a pollinator, where movement breathes life into a surreal fusion of nature and artifice. Bump into and engage with the flowers.
Tunaboots is a Portland, Oregon-based independent art and fabrication studio founded by Genevieve Hildebrand-Chupp.
ILLUSIONS IN MOTION
Hope Alexander
Illusion in motion combines light art with optical illusion. This project will
create a sense of wonder and whimsy, while leaving people thinking
about the illusions they just saw. Illusion in motion intends to make people
slow down and experience a moment with full presence, taking in the light
reactive art as it moves to create a unique optical illusion.
Hope is an independent artist who creates intricate, detailed pieces that encourage people to slow down and be present in the moment. Their work is filled with intention and emotion. Hopes work focuses on improving mental health through art and creativity.
PHANTASMAGORIA
Jacqueline Huskisson
Phantasmagoria: Handmade Spectres blends handmade imagery, shadow puppetry and projection mapping to transform the building’s façade into a spectral theatre filled with drifting spirits, smoke and atmospheric illusions.
Jacqueline Huskisson is a visual artist from Calgary, Alberta,
currently living and working between Calgary and Toronto.
ELECTRIC GROVE
Biolumina
The Electric Grove is an immersive installation of LED tree sculptures that transforms public space into a vibrant gathering place after dark. The work combines hand crafted trees with synchronized LED lighting to create a constantly evolving atmosphere of colour and light. Visitors are invited to wander through the grove and share moments together as the installation changes around them. The Electric Grove encourages curiosity, connection, and a renewed
sense of wonder within urban areas by blending familiar natural forms with immersive lighting.
Biolumina is a Pacific Northwest art studio creating immersive, nature-inspired light installations that transform public spaces into memorable nighttime experiences.
BLUE SCREEN BLISS
Jason Kitkul & Mackenzie Bedford
Blue Screen Bliss is a humorous, interactive art installation that parodies the infamous "Blue Screen of Death" using early internet nostalgia. Created by Jason Kitikul, the project uses Kinect V2 sensor and TouchDesigner to detect the bodies and hand movements of up to six participants. Attendees are invited to "fix" the malfunctioning program through their movements, which triggers iconic Windows XP visuals, symbols, and satisfyingly exaggerated sound effect.
Jason is a Creative Technologist and artist,
working with TouchDesigner to create interactive installations in Canada. His work explores the use of sensors with familar sounds and icons of technological nostalgia.
SECRET TREES
Kelsey WolfPower
Secret Trees invites viewers to unburden themselves by releasing those hidden thoughts and ideas into the ether. Whisper your secret into the tin can telephone and watch as the butterflies in the tree illuminate, symbolically carrying your words away to the four winds, never to return. This simple act transforms something private into a fleeting moment of release, encouraging reflection on the weight we carry every day. Through participation, visitors are invited to experience the transformative power of release and the regenerative energy that can follow. Secret Trees hopes each person walks away feeling lighter, renewed, and reminded that even the smallest of burdens deserve to be honoured.

PRARIE FIRE & NOTORIOUS B.A.D.
Kyle Jensen & Ian Rice
Prairie Fire is a 9.5-foot aluminum sculpture that captures Calgary’s bold western spirit through the form of a majestic rearing horse with a striking spiked mane. Crafted in a low-poly style, the interactive sculpture invites visitors to press a button and ignite flames from the horse’s nostrils.
Notorious B.A.D. is a 1,000-pound metal dragon sculpture by True North Absurdities, emerging from the ground and stretching 10 feet from the earth to the tip of its snout. Designed as an interactive experience, visitors can find the dragon’s tail and press a large red button to unleash an eight-foot flame effect, while addressable LEDs illuminate its scales, wings, and eyes.
True North Absurdities is made up of Kyle Jensen and Ian Rice, who aim to achieve absurd levels of creativity through their stylistic combinations of sculpture, technology and flame effects
SLUE SCREEN OF DEPTH

A Blue Screen can often mean you're lacking connection, you're powering down, or you are nearing death. In this instance, we hope the Blue Screen of Depth will inspire you to be playful, to see what the screens have to offer, to see yourself and your friends in a new light. Dive into the depths and explore new definitions of Blue Screen.
Matt Johnston AKA SwaggaCats has been making modern tech work with junkyard electronics since 2017. Taking inspiration from video artists like Nam June Paik and Joshua Ellingson, he hopes to inspire you to think beyond the images on screen.
CANVAS OF SHADOWS & LIGHT

Canvas of Shadows & Light: Visitors enter a glowing space where their shadows become part of the artwork. On one wall, participants can experiment with different poses or collaborate with others to create layered shadow compositions. On another wall, visitors can use a giant UV blacklight pen to draw, write, or create patterns, adding a second layer of playful, interactive expression to the experience.
Rapid Fire Duel: Projected onto a building, this game transforms the wall into a giant showdown. Two players compete by rapidly pressing their buttons, racing to see who can take down their opponent first.

THE TUNNEL

The TUNNEL is a one-way trip to another side. A series of strange, 4m(12 feet) tall cosmic structures create a tunnel of magical light and sound, scalable from 32m(105 feet) to 50m(165 feet) with all 16 frames.
B!G ART designs, builds, and tours large-scale interactive and immersive public art experiences that blend creativity, technology, and live production. From fire-shooting portals and responsive installations to custom commissions, B!G ART creates bold, tour-ready works designed to inspire wonder and bring more public art into the world.

THE YELLOW DUBMARINE
The Yellow Dubmarine Art Collective
The Yellow Dubmarine is a nautical-themed night club built inside an old Winnebago. Climb aboard and descend into the deep. Portholes glow, the periscope looks onward, and the dance floor pulses like something surfacing from the seabed. Each night, local DJs take the helm, steering the ship through sets that range from deep and dubby to full-on electronic mayhem. No two nights sound the same! Come back and ride a different current. Part vessel, part vibe, the Dubmarine is a hand-built labour of love from the Yellow Dubmarine Art Collective, made for wandering, dancing, and getting delightfully lost at sea.

Experience the invisible pulse of human connection in this 12-foot interactive light and sound sculpture. Inspired by
biological neural pathways.
Fuse33 Makerspace is Calgary’s largest community-based fabrication facility, providing over 9000 square feet of specialized workspace for artists, entrepreneurs, and local makers. Their mission is to democratize access to industrial- grade tools and foster a collaborative environment where technical skills and creative vision intersect.
BLOOMI & CHONKALINI
Turbo Bambi
Meet Bloomi & Chonkii, Turbo Bambi’s inflatable Yams (a name that audiences have lovingly given to her characters over the years). Their friendly presence invite you to slip on your rose-coloured glasses and step into a world where sound glows and colours groove. Bloomi, our cheeky flower, carries the curiosity of our inner-child, while Chonkalini glows with magnetic energy beneath his flower headphones. This dynamic duo invite you to step into a world where life feels lighter when we let imagination take over.
Based in Revelstoke, BC, French-Canadian artist Turbo Bambi brings her backcountry adventures to life through contemporary street art, exploring the duality between what meets the eye and what touches the soul.
